Kitty & Christian’s Rough Ramble for Rossholme
Aunt-and-nephew team Kitty and Christian will attempt to walk a marathon (26 miles) across Dartmoor on 11th November, to raise essential funds for Rossholme School in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Because of the autumnal lack of daylight, this will involve walking in the dark with headtorches at the beginning and end of the day (which Kitty is more anxious about than Christian!)
Rossholme School provides education for 425 children in the Kiambiu slum in Nairobi, led by its inspirational headteacher, Joyce Aruga. The school has now been given the chance to gain possession of the land and property where it is located, and needs to raise £25,000 by the end of 2023 in order to achieve this.
We were both lucky enough to receive a good education, which we took totally for granted – and we feel very strongly that supporting Rossholme is the right thing to do.

Just a note to say thank you for sponsoring me by donating money to Rossholme School in Kenya. The final total was a wonderful £820, beyond all my expectations, so thank you all very much for your kind generosity.
In the end, I was prevented from swimming the length of Windermere by the double whammy of an ear infection and then the event being cancelled due to poor weather. Undaunted (and feeling I really should get out there and stretch myself on your behalf!) I took myself off on 10th September and walked 26 hilly miles across Dartmoor instead, accompanied by my brave friend John, who was fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society. We set off in the dark, watched a beautiful sunrise as we headed into the hills, and then some 13 hours, 4500 ft of climbing, a set of rather crucial stepping stones being submerged and impassable, and several discussions along the lines of “Can you go any faster?” “No, my legs are much shorter than yours!” later, we were very pleased to cross the self-imposed ‘finish line’ and collapse into the pub!
Thank you all once again for your kindness and support – you kept me going when all I wanted to do was lie down in the ditch and cry!
